Shooting Location:
Mount Seymour, North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

These photographs of the location were shot by me in
August 2005, during filming.

Location:
The 3508 hectare Mount Seymour Provincial Park is located 30 minutes northeast of downtown Vancouver. The park encompasses Mount Seymour, Mount Elsay and Mount Bishop all of which are popular with nature enthusiasts, skiers and mountaineers alike.

The movie's tagline is a joke on the tagline for the movie Alien, "In space, no one can hear you scream."

Director Barry Sonnefeld plays a cameo role as Irv the RV rental salesman and is the man pictured on the side of the RV.

Plot Outline:

Bob Munro (Williams) and his dysfunctional family rent an RV for a road trip to the Colorado Rockies, where they ultimately have to contend with a bizarre community of campers.

A life-long fan of camping, Jeff Daniels has owned an RV for years. According to a Detroit radio interview, his RV driving lessons for the movie were quickly canceled when he arrived on location in his personal recreational vehicle.

Mount Seymour is most commonly identified for its ski area of the same name. The mountain opened for skiing in 1937 under the ownership of Harold Enquist, with a cafeteria and ski rental. A few years later, in 1949, the Government of British Columbia bought the ski area. The Government did not have the experience to run a ski area, so, they issued Mr. Enquist the first Park Use Permit to operate the area. When the permit expired in 1951, the government found a concessionaire, who was put in charge of running the lifts, ski school and cafeteria. The government retained overall ownership until 1984, when it privatized its operation as part of a cost cutting measure.

Jeff Daniels composed "Recreational Vehicle" song for his charity album "Jeff Daniels Live and Unplugged". The Song was about his personal RV misadventures.

The Mount Seymour park contains several lakes, including Elsay Lake (the largest), De Pencier Lake, Gopher Lake, and Goldie Lake. These lakes drain eastward into Indian Arm. Other smaller lakes and ponds drain westward into the Seymour River.

RV is a movie starring Robin Williams, Cheryl Hines, Jeff Daniels, JoJo, Kristin Chenoweth and Josh Hutcherson. The movie began filming in the Vancouver area and southern Alberta on May 25th, 2005 and finished filming late 2005. It was released on April 28, 2006 in North America. The RV title stands for Runaway Vacation.

One of the RVs used in the movie was donated to True Blue Animal Rescue (T-BAR), a no-kill animal shelter near Brenham, Texas. This donation was arranged by the producers of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. An episode of the series that aired on January 30, 2006 featured a makeover of the home of T-BAR operators Dale and Melanie De'Aeth, which also included a complete renovation of T-BAR's facilities. The donation was announced to the family by Williams through a live video link.

When the Gornickes follow the family it is parodying of The Hitch-Hiker.
